The X4 will be a pure road car, with sporty design elements: it will feature narrow roof pillars and frameless windows. It is expected to be around 10 cm thinner than the X3 and also 5 cm shorter. the BMW X4 M will get a newly developed M twin-turbo engine with 6-cylinder in-line. Now this is machine that could do some damage. The BMW X4 M is only speculation at the moment, since not even the regular X4 has been confirmed yet.

The BMW X4 is a totally new vehicle, show here with its Highland Silver, all-aluminum body. The X4 is a combination of the styling and features of a sports coupe together with the four-wheel drive and off-road capabilities of the X5 SAV.
As a spin-off of the next X3, the 2011 BMW X4 will share the SUV’s general footprint and underskin components, though the coupe-like styling reportedly shaves several inches from the wagon’s overall length and height, not to mention some rear-seat room and cargo space. Like X6, this smaller “sport activity coupe” is aimed at mostly urban types who prefer style over utility with their AWD, plus perhaps a little extra handling agility. And make no mistake: The X4, like other X-models, tilts heavily to on-road ability, not off-road adventuring.
Another innovation is the brake lights, carried in the dual rear lighting clusters under glass covers.
The brake lights indicate how hard the X4 coupé’s driver is braking.
Electronic sensors detect the rate of deceleration.
- Under light braking, only the lights’ outer rings are illuminated.
- As deceleration increases, the illumination spreads inward until, under full braking, the entire brake light area is illuminated.
