The Peugeot 508 will be powered by a range of engines all well positioned in their categories in terms of performance and driveability, but also fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. All engines will benefit from the latest engine technology including Peugeot’s new e-HDi stop and start system. This is the first of the new generation of stop and start systems which offers improved driveability and economy enhancements of up to 15%.
508 will no longer use the engines fitted onto the 407 without giving them a proper efficiency make-over first. The 2.2l diesel unit will be scrapped, as will other EURO 4 compliant engines.
Better performance
The HDi engine gives the driver remarkable performance.
As against previous generation engines, the HDi has excellent thermodynamic yield and much better performance. It delivers better acceleration from low speeds thanks to very high engine torque, and is available in a wide range of uses. This also ensures greater safety when overtaking, providing a more supple drive for unequalled driving pleasure.
Comparison of maximum torque* between an HDi and a petrol engine:
407 2.2 litre engine 170 hp, manual 6-speed gearbox: 370 Nm at 1,500 rpm
407 2.2 litre petrol engine, 163 hp, manual 6-speed gearbox: 220 Nm at 4,150 rpm
* Statement of the engine’s immediate ability to pull the car.
